about

“May Second” is over fourteen minutes of subtle variation. It is a musical discussion of time and memories. Some days in my past play out as vivid movies, others only fragments of color. One particular May 2nd falls under the former, while countless others are only vague notions of existence. It is this idea of memories and these points in time surviving at different resolutions that went into shaping the sound and movement within “May Second”.

“May Second” is a loose collaboration between Tim Dwyer (Off Land) and Ross Baker (formally Second Thought). The track is based upon Ross Baker's composition “May” (secondthought.bandcamp.com/track/may). The original composition was then reworked, rewritten, and re-imagined for “May Second”. The end result is a piece of music that retains the similar feelings evoked by the original all the while entering new territory. It is this dark optimism that pervades the main phrases found in both compositions.

about

Off Land Northampton, Massachusetts

Formed in 2004 by Tim Dwyer, Off Land is influenced by music such as Javanese gamelan, ambient techno, and meditative drone.
